Welcome our man from Manchester with extra toppings.

Kieran Glynn is 27 with 150 National League North appearances and some Step One action behind him. His arrival to boost our midfield ranks says much about our enhanced status. Firstly, as we head into March, we have funds to add more talent to our wage bill. Not so long ago we had to accept a raw Academy player or an unfit body without a club. Secondly, that such a prime campaigner is willing to join us when he could have let his ‘Boro contract run down. We suddenly appear to be a ‘sexy’ club right now. It might help that Kieran knows Theo Richardson well from his AFC Fylde days.

Glynn is Oldham-born though grew up in Rochdale. He’s never been part of an Academy set-up, playing only sunday football. From there, he studied Sports coaching at Leeds University and played for their team. He was spotted during a friendly with FC United of Manchester by the Rebel Reds. Kieran expected he’d have run-outs with their “stiffs” but was startled to be added to the first team squad. He therefore left university to focus on a football career. He played 55 times for FC United. Since then, he’s played for several senior north-west clubs (Southport, Chorley, AFC Fylde, Salford) and a slightly bizarre 7 game spell at Woking. This came about from a link between Martin Tyler and Gary Neville. Most noticeably, there were 3 separate spells with Scarborough where he remains very popular. The feeling was largely mutual, given that he rediscovered his love for the game after a hard time at Salford. Gaffers with strong man-management are important to him and Salford didn’t offer that.

Kieran sounds rather Babos-esque. He is known for his technical ability, creative skills and his ability to glide past his opponent. Plus he’s an articulate, thoughtful guy, ideal for radio interviews. His prime position is as a central midfield playmaker, though can operate as an attacking midfielder or wide left. He generally needs a minder around him to do the tackling. Don’t expect many goals – only 5 so far but that’s a trade-off we can afford to make.

Glynn was being frustrated as he was no longer a regular starter in a strictly mid-table team. He’d managed only 1,200 minutes for the Seadogs and recently in particular was picking splinters on the bench. “Travel challenges” were also cited. His home location is Manchester. That’s pretty awkward for the East Coast (and nor much easier for us). During his previous spells, he could car-share, but now he was driving solo. With ‘Boro not threatening either end of the table, they agreed to tear up his contract. He’s our player now and so presumably can be part of our forthcoming seaside visit.

His day/night job is with the Dominoes pizza chain and he supports Man City. Welcome Kieran.
